Understanding Scanners/Original copy and flatbedIndexHome

The weight of the original is so light that its position on the flatbed easily shifts

The position of the original on the scanner was skewed

When the original is a thin sheet of paper and the flatbed cover is clamped down on the paper, air pressure can easily cause a shift in position. Also when the original is a photo print, which is curled, the cover's downward pressure could cause its position to shift. To remedy this problem, place a transparent sheet over the copy and then lower the cover on it. The transparent sheet will show whether the copy position on the flatbed has shifted or not. However, if the scanner is equipped with a transparency unit, this will obstruct the transmission of the copy; hence, in this instance, the use of the transparent sheet is not recommended.
